S n o w

snow as in white
bright; the absence
rays reflecting

snowfalling
stilled into homes and watching
record-breaking accumulation
covering every conversation

snow without color
a distinction of proportions
gray sky to placate
ground to stagnate
three rocks and a branch, heavy laden

[Inspired by February in Minnesota and David Hockney, "Snow without Color" (1973)]

Bruised reeds

The sky was the dirt
you entered
roots mingled,
the frayed distance-
awoken, and quickly undone as slovenly shepherds
beheld

That body, eternally
yet to be made again new

Even stones break down
underground-
shattering to dust
from dust,
sharing
Your suffering.

The therapy of decades

Getting older means...
Finding ugly things within
and not hating yourself for them.

No longer
helplessly stuck in the maze
ignoring my issues
burying my pain
escaping with blame

Instead, holding self-acceptance with one hand
and healing with the other.

Entering

What if I entered into complete rest?
No more striving.

Things take the time they take,
It’s not mandated depriving.

Not punitive discipline, but wisdom inducing.
Dependence instilling.

It’s the journey—
It’s not the arriving.

Frozen River Song

water laced falling state
chaste flow
droplets dropped by fate

awaiting latent pow'r
hard and impenetrable
by light
melt-able

this crush, a flood,
a deluge come spring
lace undone
a torrent freed to sing

A beautiful edge

A craftsman / orderly fashioning
A firm grip / assembling memory
A capable hand(le) / steel blades pivoting
A steady ship / skirting parallel lines

A miracle of precision
Clip, trim, shear
Safely wielding

A tool of beauty
Cut, slice, snip
Used on the Daily

A beautiful edge
Chop, cleave, slit
Shaping destiny
