In the end / Psalm 1

The gift of days
Invitation to gaze
And praise Creator's stage

Breath ensconced in bone and flesh
Spirit meshed
Left to grow, flour-ish

Until the reckoning
Settling of accounts, finality
Chaff or tree

Exposing agreements with darkness
Stances of baseness
Intimacies with wickedness

Shameless, vileness relishing
Immorality exalting
Corrupted, iniquity prowling

In the end the godless
Unrooted, guilty of trespass
Will meet Divine recompense

Hostile, condemned to perish
Apart from Mercy's defense
No remembrance

cave side songs rain water runs on pathways years long heavy air carrying cicadas drum, frogs and crickets hum grains of sand coating my feet crunching along the path just edging past August dark

the Generous Portion

Crushed by ashen lusts, unrealized hopes hurled upon sons
and condemning, comparing feeds
so

Bitterness clings
like motor grease
up to my elbows, hands stained with grief.

Pain contorts
like a stone, a bundle of nerves
in continuous spasm, bone-like tension.

Grief weakens
riddled with bullet holes
hope deferred and heart sick, ash stained, clothing rent.

Oh Lord, love so generous
a movement toward me, a father's falter-less gait after
one who was dead.

Cleanse me, wash me with consuming peace
Unwind me, loosen the sinews hardened, release
Repair me, heal the holes, Light come in and show.

Non sequitur

Breath
Clandestine
Butter
Native tongue
Grief
Fluency
Love
Indecipherable

Will we make it at all?

Regardless, I’ve given myself
When you are going inward, inward
The weight of the world coming down
Given feathers, but no wing for flight
Only bereavement and darkest night
Where are you
I’ve given you ear and compassion
But you abdicate that ration
And all that you can give
Or so it seems, this reigning silence, this reckoning
The sea is still, underneath; chaos is erupting
I summon you here my love
