Lakeside sound

Highway 23, Lumberjack Road
We pass sauntering birch and wooded grove
Pastured horses and cattle wading, calves lying down
The crow flies, eyeing fields among the immense clouds
A blue freightline
Until dispersed and scattered rhyme
Reflected on the water’s hide

Underneath sky
Shade of last year’s cattails
Speckled loon egg on matted reeds
She guards while he feeds
Dragonflies by the dozens orbit
Four winged synchronized knit
Circling round

Sun sets, hummingbirds zip
And sip
Cicadas and frogs release their symphony, a cacophony
Of sound
The lakeside psalm
