To have such height

I will not vacate the premises
This is my territory
The joy of my soul
I have staked
In His stakes

I will not give up
Even when it feels
Like darkest weight of life
And I crawl out beneath
Shadows and weep
Unseeing
Eyes blurred from blue light

Set it down,
Pick up paper for beholding
Something spoken
Infinity’s unfolding lexicon

Yet my heart fumbles and grasps, slashes with talons
Instead of hands
Feel more creature than man
Driven by desperate instinct

Awakened to
Depth of mountain
Summit of valley
The roots must go deep
To have such a height,
To have such a height.
